Tropical Storm Isaias
Morehead City is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning due to Isaias churning up our coast. According to the National Weather Service, high winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge and potential tornadoes will impact our area beginning this evening, overnight and Tuesday morning.
Morehead City has issued a State of Emergency declaration in response to Tropical Storm Isaias. First responders and city staff are actively monitoring the storm. If conditions worsen, Morehead City is storm ready and is prepared to quickly communicate with residents and respond to any storm related damages or injuries.
The National Weather Service says this is a fast-moving storm. Their meteorologists stress the risk of tornadoes overnight and ask that residents have multiple ways to receive tornado warnings. Please keep your smart phones and weather radios charged, turned on, and near you throughout the duration of Tropical Storm Isaias so you receive all tornado warnings overnight.
Be hurricane safe and ready by:
• Staying off roads during heavy rains and peak impact times.
• Bringing in garbage/recycling cans, lawn furniture, umbrellas, bicycles, grills, hanging plants and lawn decorations.
• Buying extra batteries for flashlights in case of power outages.
• Keeping out of standing water with vehicles as well as on foot.
Morehead City will continue communicating throughout the duration of storm. Please stay safe and continue to monitor www.moreheadcitync.org and www.weather.gov/moreheadcity. Follow us on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
