Floodplain Management
See how Morehead City is trying to prevent and reduce the risk of flooding to cultivate a more resilient community with our Floodplain Management Plan (updated plan - coming soon).
No Adverse Impacts (NAI)
No Adverse Impacts (NAI) are a community focused type of floodplain management that guides development in ways that reduces the number of properties and the amount of losses after a flood. Local flood losses add up to very large numbers at the national level, and those numbers are getting bigger. WE CAN’T WAIT!
NAIs promote:
- meeting community needs
- responsible development
- local management of flood preparations & response
- better utilization of flood improvement funds
- longer lasting mitigation
- reduced loss & liability
- better protected and restored floodplains
