Are you prepared? Even if you think you’re prepared, check out our other pages for tips, tricks and other resources about before, during and after storms and flooding.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a variety of flood related online independent study courses. This includes FEMA’s online Elevation Certificate training, EC Made Easy.

Floodplain Management

See how Morehead City is trying to prevent and reduce the risk of flooding to cultivate a more resilient community with our Floodplain Management Plan (updated plan - coming soon).

No Adverse Impacts (NAI)

No Adverse Impacts (NAI) are a community focused type of floodplain management that guides development in ways that reduces the number of properties and the amount of losses after a flood. Local flood losses add up to very large numbers at the national level, and those numbers are getting bigger. WE CAN’T WAIT!

NAIs promote:

  • meeting community needs
  • responsible development
  • local management of flood preparations & response
  • better utilization of flood improvement funds
  • longer lasting mitigation
  • reduced loss & liability
  • better protected and restored floodplains
