About the Youth Library

Our youth librarians are Ms. Brittany and Ms. Joanne.

The Morehead City Library has a wonderful collection of children, juvenile, and young adult books for ages 0 to 18. The lower level of the library houses the charming children’s room and our collection of picture books, first reader books, juvenile fiction, biography, and non-fiction books. A checkerboard game table, board games, puzzles, Legos, and lots of stuffed animals are available to play with too.

Kids' Programs

Preschool Story Time

We offer a weekly Preschool Story Time for ages 3 to 7 with their caregivers on Tuesdays beginning at 11 am. This program helps to promote early literacy skills through reading, songs, games, and crafts.

Story Time Themes

  • November 30: Christmas Cards
  • December 7: Christmas Ornaments
  • December 14: Gingerbread

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Come start your child on their “Road to Reading”. This program is a nationwide challenge to encourage parents to read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000 book goal in just three years! The 1,000 Books program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth to five years. Prizes will be awarded at the 100 book milestones

The Makerspace room is open during library hours.  You are welcome to create and play with the many supplies we have out in the room.  You may take home what you create except for the Legos.  Please keep those here so others can build.  You can leave them for display if you like, otherwise please put them away. On Fridays and Saturdays, there will be special projects.

Markerspace Themes

  • December 3 through 4: Christmas Cards
  • December 10 through 11: Christmas Ornaments
  • December 17 through 18: Gingerbread
  • December 24 through 25: Closed for Christmas

Please join us on these days to create a masterpiece of your own.

Summer Reading Program: June through August

The Morehead City Library’s Summer Reading Program encourages and rewards all children to continue reading during the summer break, helping to prevent the dreaded “Brain Drain”. Our activities are designed to keep them reading and writing. Once you have registered, complete the activities and reading at home. Rewards are given as participants complete activities, which encourages them to keep it up!

iVox Books

The Morehead City Library offers the iVox children’s book app for ages 3 through 8, which engages and delights curious young minds with the latest in storytelling technology. Part eBook, part audiobook, and part virtual pop-up. Children follow along with the exciting stories while interacting with 3D characters and scenes – immersed in the narrative like never before (no 3D glasses needed!).
