Mayor

Hello, and welcome to Morehead City.

My name is Jerry Jones, and I was elected Mayor of Morehead City in November of 1999.  Since then I’ve proudly served our community and our citizens.

Morehead City is the largest town in Carteret County, located on the crystal coast of North Carolina, with ready access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

On behalf of our council, it is a pleasure to invite you to explore our museums, historic sites, to shop, dine and listen to live music on the Morehead City Waterfront, and to relax and enjoy our many public beach accesses, parks and recreation facilities.  Morehead City is your gateway to exhilarating deep sea fishing adventures, spectacular diving around sunken ships in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, and just a boat trip away from wild horses and Cape Lookout National Seashore.  We are also home to the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, One of America’s largest and oldest sportfishing tournaments, the North Carolina Seafood Festival, and the Morehead Marlins, a collegiate wooden bat baseball team located at Big Rock Stadium.  We also have the largest free public fishing pier and boat launch in our area.  Our citizens enjoy coastal living at its finest, and we are very proud of our town and all it has to offer.

While we live in Fisherman’s Paradise, one of our best assets is our people!  We have many educated, dedicated, concerned and talented individuals willing to give their time for the betterment of our community.  They are the special people who make up our boards and commissions which serve as the life blood of any successful community.  It has been said that the success of a community can be directly gauged by the quality and quantity of its volunteers.  That being said, Morehead City is alive and well.
