Preparing Materials for Collection
Bulky Waste
Place these large items on the curb next to your rollout cart. Smaller, loose items must be put in a bag, box or tied in a bundle. These items will be collected on the same day as your rollout cart.
C&D (Minimal Construction & Demolition Debris)
Each large single item must be less than four feet long and weigh less than 50 pounds. All other construction and demolition items for collection must be put in a bag, box or tied in a bundle. Loose material will not be collected. Tied bundles must not be over four feet in length, eighteen inches in diameter or weigh more than 50 pounds. Total amount of C&D placed out for collection at any one time must not exceed 2 cubic yards in volume. Place this material next to your roll out cart in a separate stack from all other items for collection. These items will be collected on the same day as your rollout cart. Call 252-726-6071 for more information.
MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) Refuse or Garbage
Place material in your rollout cart. Loose material will not be collected.
North Carolina Household Sharps Disposal
Used sharps should be immediately placed in a sharps disposal container. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared sharps containers are generally available through pharmacies, medical supply companies, health care providers and online. These containers are made of puncture-resistant plastic with leak-resistant sides and bottom. They also have a tight fitting, puncture-resistant lid.
If an FDA-cleared container is not available a heavy-duty plastic household container, such as a laundry detergent container can be used as an alternative.
White Goods
Empty refrigerators, ranges, ovens, water heaters, freezers, washers, dryers or other similar appliances before placing them on the curb for collection. You must call the Town no later than Thursday for these items to be collected. Collection day for these items is each Friday.
Yard Trash
Yard waste is:
- Bedding
- Leaves
- Limbs
- Shrubbery
- Trimmings
- Twigs
- Vines
Place these items next to the street beside your roll out cart separate from the other items. Each limb must be less then ten feet in length. Limbs must be stacked in a straight, neat stack next to the street and separate from other items. They will be collected the same day as your roll out cart. Do not place these items directly under utility lines.
